Lozells Social Media Surgery: Tuesday 29th September …

Methodist Church centreLozells’ third social media surgery will take place on Tuesday 29th September, from 5.30pm until 7.00pm, at the Methodist Church building on the corner of Lozells St and Gerrard St. As ever, the sessions are supported by Raj Rattu, Director of Community Consultancy, and BeVocal.org.uk.

Have your say about the future of Lozells

Front Cover image, Area Action Plan for Aston, Newtown and LozellsWe received this information about a chance for residents in Lozells, Newtown and Aston to influence their local area from Beata Thomas at Birmingham City Council’s North West Development Planning and Regeneration Team:

Birmingham City Council is preparing an Area Action Plan (AAP) for Aston, Newtown and Lozells that will guide development and regeneration in the area over the next 15-20 years. The aim of the plan is to help revitalise the communities through a set of proposals for housing regeneration, improvements to local community facilities and provision of new employment opportunities.

We are now reached the Preferred Options, which have been informed by previous rounds of consultation in 2005 (Newsletter 1 – Issues and Objectives) and 2007 (Newsletter 2 – Issues and Options).

Once again, you have a chance to influence the development of a long-term plan for the area by joining us at any of the consultation events!

Photos of youth activities in Lozells

Greensnapper Photography have been out and about in Lozells taking photographs of youth activities. This shows a really positive side of Lozells with youngsters involved in creative and productive activities, which is why we’re pleased to show off the pictures on >Life in Lozells.

Step Up + Step Out is a summer arts project for young people in Lozells, Birmingham organised by Worth Unlimited. Activities included street dance, movie making, music production, lyric writing, fashion and drama workshops. The project provided a platform for young people to find out more about their gifts and abilities, to gain new skills and to express themselves positively and creatively. Next social media surgery

Following on from the success of the first social media surgery in Lozells, volunteers will be offering free one-to-one advice on using social media (things like Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, Wordpress etc. ). The social media surgeries are part of the BeVocal project. Please sign up in advance at their website, BeVocal.org.uk. Raj Rattu, Director of Community Consultancy, is organising the venue and supporting the event.

Come along to the Methodist Church Centre on Lozells St at 5.30pm on 20th August 2009.

While the Black Cat Café building is being demolished, the future of the Black Cat site as a whole is still the subject of a public consultation.
