Building Bridges – Sound It Out
Community music group Sound It Out is offering local people from Lozells and the surrounding area the unique opportunity to learn about music and dance from around the world alongside other members of the community.
Working with international musicians from Sound It Out’s Infusion ensemble, participants will explore music and dance from the Middle East and Africa and also create new music with a range of influences. There will be five workshops on Saturday afternoons in April resulting in a community performance on 3 May in Lozells, sharing the stage with Infusion, an eclectic ensemble of musicians from across the world.
The project aims to:
- Increase understanding and awareness of ethnic diversity in local communities
- Encourage community cohesion by bringing together community groups, schools children and parents through the workshops
- Achieve additional learning outcomes including knowledge of other people and languages, performance skills and physical coordination.
- Effect a positive change in attitudes to other cultures through music and through interaction with musicians and other people from diverse backgrounds and countries
Workshop places are limited so please book through Gillian Lloyd on 0121 464 9900 or by email
Or get in touch with Katherine Rogers at Sound it Out on 0121 772 8655 or email
This project is being delivered in partnership with the Holte Extended Schools Cluster with funding from (Lozells and East Handsworth) Community Chest

This Place Called Lozells
Second in a series of interviews with local people: we asked Canon Jemima Prasadam, the Vicar of St Paul & St Silas; Mohammed Abbas Khan of the Handsworth Neighbourhood Forum; and local Police Community Support Officer Rob Capella for their views of this place called Lozells.
