Why do you think the way you do about life in Lozells?

Author: Many people think that Lozells is a bad community but what do you really know about Lozells? Why do you make out that Lozells is a bad community that causes trouble when really you know nothing about? Is it for fun? Because I think it is a joke. The people within Lozells are kind and very sweet and they would not hurt a fly but it is quite sad to know that we are being hated by other communities. This is what I think however, you may have another opinion or reason to why Lozells are being hated? So feel free to drop a comment and I will get back to you + I would really appreciate it. I would really like to know what you think?

i dont think Lozell’s is bad because of the people but a small number of people that give it a bad name like any area.. i dont think people are hated as its such a strong word, if i am honest i used to think Lozells was right down market, and i still think it is but its developing… i know Lozells has a reputation due t recent shootings, prostitution and drugs but its not the community that is targeted because of it.
you probably want to know how i can make a overview statement of Lozells, well i have been working in the area for 2 years now and have made some wicked friends, and already had a exisiting friend in lozells… i standby i would never like to live in Lozell’s , i dont like the house’s or the roads and find it dull the best of times, and i stand by that but the community is great, its just that it isnt for me. hope this helps!If people were to rate Lozells it would get its due but to think it would be the top ten list i doubt it very much, again people are rude, scruffy and quite irritating but that happens in most area’s!!! jus Lozells its more common
Thanks Jay for your thoughts and insight. My view as a geek about the area is there is a lot of historical prejudice about the place and people – often based around moral panics (riots, community tension) and class (others elsewhere use us as a measure of what is not ideal for them). The facts, if anyone is ever interested paints a different picture – Holte School obtaining 80% A-C, very good ofsted reports of local primary schools, Lozells received a national award letting the rest of the UK know how to run a community consultation, this year the lowest crime rates in the city have been in Lozells, in the midst of a recession house prices in Lozells have not slumped – very few For Sale signs. As you acknowledge there is a very good community spirit in the area. I have friends who have moved to Great Barr/Handdworth Wood, who may enjoy the lovely houses they’ve moved into but regularly visit Lozells to do their weekly shop, go to Mosque/Church, even use community facilities here. Statistically, they’d be argued as moving up the Social Mobility ladder by changing post codes, but what about those – growing in number – of us who still live in the area and hold similar professional occupations. Do we or our working class families fall into your rude, scruffy and quite irritating description? (by the way no offence taken – but 20 years of it I’m quite used to it now).
