Welcome to Life in Lozells – the community web project for the Lozells neighbourhood in Birmingham, England. You might live or work in Lozells… in which case this website is for you: to swap stories and to tell other people what’s going on. To share your news, views and clues about life and living together here in this part of Birmingham.

Or… Maybe you don’t live or work here, but you heard of Lozells because of what the media called ‘rioting’ between communities here in 2005? If so, this site is for you. You’ll see there’s plenty of everyday good news from the communities that share our neighbourhood. It isn’t all great. We don’t pretend life in Lozells couldn’t be better. But it isn’t all bad either. The people that live and work here, the businesses and communities and our public services are working together to make our neighbourhood an even better place to share.

Maybe you are the kind of the person that makes decisions that affect neighbourhoods like Lozells? In which case this website is also for you! We want you to see we’re real people – not just statistics – and we want you to bear that in mind when take your decisions. We really do need you to hear the truth beneath the surface of the place we live.

Whoever you are, we hope you like finding out more about Life in Lozells… about the communities that live here.. the families… their faiths and hopes. Above all, we hope this site shows visible evidence that there’s more keeps people together in our neighbourhood than divides us. We deliberately designed the site so anyone can have their say: there are plenty of places you can comment… So go ahead! We just ask you to avoid offensive and prejudiced language of all sorts and remember this is a place where we respect other people’s culture, gender, race, faith and values.

So, finally, who are ‘We’? We are a group of residents who are involved in community groups of different kinds in the neighbourhood. We have come together with the support of the Lozells Neighbourhood Management Board and Birmingham City Council and with some assistance from the Chamberlain Forum to make this community website come alive.
