Simmerdown Festival is just around the corner, a large participatory event taking place in Handsworth Park, Simmerdown will be a daylong feast of Caribbean culture that includes food, workshops, crafts stalls and performance.
As part of the celebrations, Carnival Bashment, organised by Punch Records, will be taking part at 4.15pm. Carnival Bashment is a mash up of carnival and Jamaican dancehall styles culminating in a moving, colourful performance in the heart of the park. The event is part of the Cultural Olympiad, signalling the beginning of the countdown to the Olympics in 2012. The performance will include dancers from schools in three participating areas, Harborne, Great Barr and Perry Beeches.
